SUSTAINABILITY

Ring Mill sustainability starts with environmental awareness

Ring Mill's sustainability starts with the three important values that found company's history and characterise its production activities: Health & Safety, Human Capacity, Respect for the Environment. Every year Ring Mill invests resources in environmental protection, support of the local community and training of its employees. In particular, on top of continuous investment and improvement in the company's internal Integrated Environmental Safety System, we dedicate great attention to the needs of our territory.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Ring Mill constantly studies and implements the best production methods in terms of safety, sustainability and energy saving. We protect the environment by optimising the use of resources and limiting the production of waste material; in addition, our geothermal and solar plants allow us to limit air and water pollution.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

The transition and energy independence route started with the realisation of two important clean energy investments. In 2012, a solar panel system was commissioned on the roof of one building in the production area. Later, the first geothermal energy system was installed in the new office building, capable of completely covering the heating and cooling needs of the room allocation.

The photovoltaic plant currently covers an area of 2.143 sqm with an expected annual output of 265.000 kWh, equivalent to guarantee a reduction of more than 50.000 tons of CO2. Further investments in photovoltaic plants are planned for increasing the energy output.

The entire production plant in Dubino, in particular the two renewable energy plants, meets standards and follows national and international water and air emission treatment guidelines.

PRODUCTION SUSTAINABILITY

Most of our gas furnaces have regenerative burners, reducing NOx emissions well below the reference parameters of the European market despite the high pre-heat temperatures of combustion air. Thanks to the high pre-heat temperatures of combustion air, recuperative burners enable to reduce fuel consumption by 40 ÷ 50% compared to traditional cold-air burners.

In terms of energy efficiency advanced LED lighting system in all production departments have been installed to save the consumption of energy.

Thanks to the latest investments in the energy sustainability field and in energy consumption monitoring systems, Ring Mill is ready to achieve the ISO 50001 certification.
This certification is designed to support organizations in all sectors and provides a practical way to improve energy use, through the development of an energy management system.

LCA FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

Production waste and scraps generated are part of a virtuous circular economy process based on Life Cycle Assessment principles.

These scraps, which amount to more than 20%, are sold to our own steelwork for their reintegration in the steel making production process.

Through the constant recycling of metals, Ring Mill is able to reduce the extraction and consequently the environmental impact.

CERTIFICATIONS

Through the years, Ring Mill has adopted national and international rules and standards relative to quality and sustainability. As a result the company has obtained numerous certifications and defined internal guidelines and policies.
